The fastest and easiest way to license or renew is right here. You’ll create a profile for your pet, upload photos, process your license registration, and receive purchase confirmations via email. Payment can be made using a credit card or Visa/Mastercard debit card and your package will be shipped out next business day. Each year, you just need to log in to your existing account and renew - it’s super easy!

If you’re having trouble licensing online and need to get your registration processed in a hurry, you can give our customer care team a call and they may be able to process your pet license over the phone. Note that we can only accept credit cards and Visa/Mastercard debit as payment.

License Fees

Pet licenses are required for all dogs and cats living in The City of Battle Creek. Licenses are available for 1 or 3 year terms and must be renewed prior to the expiration date. You will receive reminders from us about upcoming license expirations via mail, phone, and email.

A replacement The City of Battle Creek tag is available for a $5.00 fee or at no additional charge when you license your pet.

A valid rabies certificate is required to complete the licensing process. You must upload or present your certificates at time of purchase.

A spay/neuter certificate is required to qualify for the discounted rate.

What is HomeSafe™?

The HomeSafe™ Lost Pet Service features an online tool that ties your pet's unique tag code to their online profile. This means that if anyone finds your pet, they can easily report them found through our site, and immediately get access to the contact information you have chosen to provide.

Our Found Pet report makes it easy for people to help your pet get home safe. We also have a dedicated dispatch staff that works around the clock, answering phone calls and working with members of the community to help get lost pets home safe.

In order to complete the licensing process, you will be required to provide basic information about your pet, proof of current rabies vaccination, and if the dog is spayed or neutered, documentation must be presented or uploaded for the reduced fee. Also a few critical pieces of information about yourself including your name, address, and contact information.

Once you have completed the licensing process, you are encouraged to add extra information about your dog in their online accounts, including photos!

The City of Battle Creek and DocuPet have partnered up to offer an enhanced Pet Ownership Program for Battle Creek residents. The DocuPet solution includes online license payments, pet tag distribution, customer service, renewal notice distribution, and community awareness campaigns. Pet owners must now license through the DocuPet program in order to secure a Battle Creek pet license.

LICENSING OPTIONS, DATES, AND LOCATIONS

If you wish to license from the comfort of home, you can do so online here. If your pet has a valid rabies certificate that has been verified in DocuPet, you can renew your dog’s license over the phone by calling 1-877-239-6072 between 9:00 AM and 8:00 PM EST.

We need your email address to create a unique ID for your account and to provide a way for you to verify your account.

If you do not have an email you will need to license your pet in person at one of the participating locations listed here.

Starting December 3rd you can license your dogs using DocuPet. If your pet currently holds a valid license you will receive a renewal reminder before the license expires.

A service dog is a dog that has been trained to provide assistance to a person with a disability that relates to that person’s disability.

If your address is very new, or otherwise was not captured in our verification database you may be receiving an error when trying to license your pet. Please call or email our helpful customer service team at 1-877-239-6072 or info@docupet.com. They will update your address and allow you to proceed with the online licensing process.

TAGS

Your pet tag will come in the mail regardless if you license online, or in person. Please allow for 10-12 business days to receive your tag and use your receipt as proof of license in the meantime!

If it’s your first time licensing a new pet, along with your pet tag you will receive your new Membership Package and information about our HomeSafe™ Lost Pet Service.

 

You can order and pay for a replacement tag online by logging into your account and selecting the "Order Replacement Tags" link. You can also order a replacement tag by calling our customer service team at 1-877-239-6072.

Alternatively, you can visit an associated sales vendor to purchase a replacement tag.

 

Please get in touch with us! We stand by the quality of our tags and if your furry friend's tag has worn within one year of purchase and is no longer legible we will replace it free of charge. Just demonstrate proof of wear by emailing a photo to info@docupet.com. Please don't wait - your pet's tag is key to your pet getting home if he or she is ever lost!

LOST PET SYSTEM

DocuPet’s HomeSafe Lost Pet Service allows you to immediately connect with other pet owners and pet lovers in your area if your pet goes missing, and alerts you instantly if your pet is found. It also lets you control what information is displayed on your pet’s profile and makes it so anyone can simply report your pet found.

From within your online account, you can indicate that your pet has been lost by filing a lost pet report. The first page you see has a list of your licensed pet(s) and beside each pet is a "Report Lost" button. You’ll be prompted to enter where your pet was last seen and be given the opportunity to add additional contact information. This takes just a few minutes. You should always check with your local animal shelter as well.

You control the information included in a Lost Pet Alert through your "Lost Pet" privacy settings. These privacy settings can be edited at any time from within your online profile. During the process of reporting your pet lost, you will be asked to review this information and can edit it if necessary. Your pet’s profile plays an important role in getting your pet home safe. Here are some ways you can keep your pet’s profile up-to-date, these details can be extremely helpful to anyone who is temporarily caring for your pet while working to get them home safely:

  • Consider including multiple phone numbers
  • Add any secondary addresses where you spend time (family, friends, work, etc.)
  • Enter the names of some of your pet’s other caregivers and pet sitters
  • Do your best to describe their temperament and any identifying markings
  • Upload photos – this makes it so much easier for the Lost Pet Brigade to spot your furry friend and for us to create social media posts on your behalf.
  • Note their feeding schedule and vaccination records
  • Provide care instructions and veterinarian information

When you log into your account, the first page you see has a list of your licensed pet(s) and beside your lost pet will be a "Report Found" button.

When you report your pet found we will inform everyone within the Lost Pet Brigade, remove your pet's profile from the "Lost Pets" page, remove any social media posts that have been made on your behalf and breathe a big sigh of relief!

Please! Because we engage a whole community of pet lovers when you report your pet lost and we appreciate being updated as soon as possible when your pet is found so we can let everyone know the search is off.

As a member of the Lost Pet Brigade, you are not obliged to do anything at all, but if you are available to help and see that the pet was last seen in your area, we would hope that you would take the time to look around your immediate vicinity. This is your way of "paying it forward" should you ever need the assistance of the Lost Pet Brigade yourself!

ACCOUNT UPDATES

We're sorry for your loss. You can update a pet's profile via your online account or we can take care of it for you if you call 1-877-239-6072 or email info@docupet.com. Our customer service line is answered from 9:00AM to 8:00PM EST, Monday through Friday.

We’re sorry! Unfortunately, unless you tell us a pet is no longer in your care, we have no way of knowing. Have you already told us? You may have a duplicate account. Get in touch with the DocuPet customer service team to update your record by calling 1-877-239-6072 or emailing info@docupet.com.

CITY INFORMATION AND CITY ORDINANCES

Limits of the number of pets permitted per dwelling vary but in Battle Creek the limit is: 

3 dogs, 5 cats

DOCUMENT SUBMISSION

As you are required to provide documentation to demonstrate proof that your pet has been spayed/neutered, our customer representatives are not able to review this documentation and therefore cannot process new licenses for spayed/neutered pets over the phone. You must license online where you can upload the required documentation, or present it in person at a vendor location. Once we have documentation on file, we do not require it again and thus, renewals can be processed over the phone.

The City of Battle Creek requires documentation that verifies a pet has been spayed or neutered in order to receive the discounted rate. Requiring documentation ensures that pet information is accurate which is critical for identification reasons.

If your pet has been sterilized since their last license, you will need to update their online profile to reflect these changes. Once updated, you will automatically be charged the correct rate when you renew their license.  If licensing at a vendor location, you will need to inform the clerk about the change in your pet’s status.

IMPORTANT! In order to receive the discounted rate, you will need to provide proof that your pet has been spayed or neutered. During the licensing process, you are required to upload a legible digital file of the certificate. If you cannot locate your certificate, please contact your vet for assistance. If you already have an account click on the “View Submitted Documents” button on the right to upload and submit a file.

If you indicate that your pet is spayed/neutered on the registration page, the system will automatically take you to a page where you can upload the required documentation. You may either scan or take a photo (but make sure it’s a good one!) to get the file ready for upload on your computer.

Documentation uploaded via the online system is reviewed immediately. Once you complete your licensing purchase, your pet’s licensing package will be prepared for shipping. Packages are typically received within 10 to 12 business days after the order date.

As long as you wish to receive the discounted rate, you must provide documentation. You will not be able to proceed with licensing your pet without it. We do not recommend you license your sterilized pet under an intact rate as your pet’s record will then show incorrect information about your pet which could create issues when it comes to identification.  

If you can’t locate the certificate you received after the procedure was done, you will need to contact your vet. Reach out to them via phone, email, or even through their website to request a copy of the required certificates. Be sure to specify any and all pets you require documentation for.
